Willie Odell Jordan
Founder, Producing Artistic Director
Willie Odell Jordan is an award-winning theatre director, educator, arts leader, and founder whose distinguished career has been devoted to teaching, directing, mentoring, and creating meaningful theatrical experiences. A retired college professor of theatre and speech, Jordan has spent decades shaping young artists, strengthening theatre programs, and using the stage as a place for truth, transformation, healing, and community connection.
Jordan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Fine Arts in Directing from Virginia Tech. Before entering higher education, he taught theatre, speech, and English in the public schools of Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina, where he helped students discover confidence, discipline, creativity, and the power of their own voices.
Throughout his career, Jordan has received numerous honors for excellence in both teaching and directing, including recognition from the North Carolina Theatre Conference and awards for Best Show and Directing from the American College Theatre Festival. His former students have gone on to work professionally in film, regional theatre, and Broadway, reflecting his lasting impact as a mentor, teacher, and artistic guide.
As a director, Jordan is known for bold, emotionally truthful productions that combine strong ensemble work, cultural awareness, visual imagination, and a deep respect for the human condition. His artistic vision is grounded in the belief that theatre should do more than entertain; it should challenge, restore, awaken, and transform.
In July 2025, Jordan relocated to Greensboro, North Carolina, beginning a new chapter in his artistic journey. Rested, renewed, and ready to return to the work he feels called to do, he founded The Crown Jewel Theatre, a company rooted in healing, social impact, emerging voices, underrepresented stories, and meaningful community dialogue.
Through The Crown Jewel Theatre, Jordan seeks to create theatre that is essential, transformative, and deeply connected to the needs of the community. As an artist, educator, and visionary leader, Jordan believes that theatre is a necessary act of witness, dialogue, restoration, and change. His life's work continues to center stories that challenge, heal, inspire, and call people into deeper connection with themselves and one another.
